Marc Be Mine

1: Marc Jacobs dress, We Are Handsome bodysuit, Gucci boots, Pamela Love necklace, Ingri Dahl sunglasses; 2: Alexander McQueen shirt, MbyMJ skirt, Turnford socks, Topshop platforms, Iossellani bracelet, River Island cap; 3: Topshop crop top, Stolen Girlfriends Club denim shirt, Philip Lim skirt, Rochas platforms, Piperlime bag, Noor earrings

Of course, while the rest of the fashion world is waxing poetic about nike stripes and platform sneaker-boots (not to say I'm not; I am), I'm realizing that my style proclivities lie in a more feminine field. Uber-feminine, actually. I've been really lusting after Marc Jacobs items in particular- his exuberantly colored, pleated, and flounced pieces are really appealing to the Disney princess-lover of my childhood, mixed in with my love of 1940s smokey-eyed movie stars. Basically, I'm trying to look like Joan Holloway, circa 2012...

Also, just added a new banner to the sidebar! Sugarlips sent me this dress a little while back, and I basically wear it every other day. Make sure to check out all their amazing wares!! xx

Snap

Like many other people in the world, I have a Bucket List. On the list are things like: run a marathon, go to Tokyo, publish a book, etc. But the very first thing on my list was to someday be photographed by The Sartorialist. I can say now that my number one item can be crossed off! It's interesting though; being put- however fleetingly- into the "public eye" of the internet is a bit scary. Scott was able to capture something indefinable about me- maybe it's an aggression, or a sadness, or a strength- and some people who commented on the picture seemed to be offended by it. I'm very lucky, to be honest, that so many of the comments were lovely and kind. But, as per human nature, I can't help thinking about the negative ones. It's an interesting phenomenon, but it in no way takes away from the triumphant nature of fulfilling a dream, and meeting such an inspirational person.

Waist Up, Waist Down

urban outfitters dress, michael kors heels

Sorry for the unintended hiatus, guys. I was in the last terrible throes of finals, and since then I've just needed a minute to decompress. But what better way to do that than a night of fashion and fun with my PIC* Laura? We ate a celebratory dinner of moules, frites, and beer at Vol de Nuit, and then headed uptown to the Waist Up/Waist Down: An Evening of Schiaparelli and Prada exhibit at the Met Museum. It was an amazing look at the synthesis between both women's designs, and how their take on extravagant, avante-garde fashion can be resolutely practical when examined closely. I wasn't supposed to be taking pictures in the exhibit, but I couldn't help myself. As we were leaving, we were approached by Scott Schuman (yes, THAT Scott Schuman), and wound up talking to him for close to an hour about art, music, and traveling. It was an amazing night, to be sure. Stay tuned for more exciting developments...

how much is that bunny in the window?

urban outfitters romper, vintage belt, michael kors bag, doc martens boots, f21 tights

To celebrate the (semi) end of the ninth circle of hell finals, Laura and I were treated to dinner by her cousin and his girlfriend. We went to Peasant, in Nolita, and it was spectacular. It's a super unpretentious place, but serves really amazing Italian food. I got pasta with mullet roe, butter and breadcrumbs, Laura got pig's liver, and we shared bread pudding with white chocolate, figs and almonds for dessert. I mean...

I wore this romper, plus my beloved MK bag and my docs. These pieces are pretty much "staples" for someone like me who vomits when hearing the words closet staples. I'd much rather have a collection of colorful, eclectic, mad clothes than structured white blouses and LBDs.
