So yesterday my dad surprised me with pretty much the best thing ever...invites to two shows at Bryant Park!!! A woman that he works with had read my blog and offered to give me priiime seats. I went to upcoming Russian designer Alexander Terexov's show, and William Rast. This is going to be a long post, so get ready.

I arrived at the tents practically jumping for joy. These were my people, this army of stilleto-wearing, hair-swishing amazons who were constantly checking their Blackberries. As you can see I stood out in my mint green flapper dress (because literally everyone else wore all black), but I kind of liked it that way; a few photogs even snapped some pictures of me, which was exciting.
Terexov obviously took his inspiration from the New York skyline, because many of his filmy dresses had exaggerated prints of buildings upon them. As you know I am deathly afraid of printed things, so these were not my cup of tea. An exception was the very last look, a silk sleeveless goddess gown. It was printed in the same way, but more subtly and with a crescent moon on the shoulder, which gave it a more ethereal, and less industrial look. My favorites from the collection included sequins, either all over or with black or gold sequin detailing on a tan or grey background. What also bothered me was his use of fur, but that's just because I choose not to wear it. However, one wool crepe dress had an asymmetrical mink collar that exposed one of the model's shoulders, and it was perfectly lovely.

Moving on to William Rast (which is Justin Timberlake's line, if you didn't know). I LOVED IT, you guys. It was so me, and the energy in the room was palpable. The collection was called "New America", and expressed the sense that American fashion needs to move into a more energetic place, to prevent us from growing depressed in these tumultuous times. And believe me, if I had some of the pieces from that line, I would never be sad again (HINT JUSTIN: CALL ME AND GIVE ME ALL YOUR CLOTHES). Rast stresses their Southern roots, which was evident in the show's soundtrack, which sounded like a mixture between Ray Charles and the tunes from
O Brother, Where Art Thou?. It was undeniably cool, as were the clothes. There was a lot of acid wash (my faaavorite), and amazing jackets. I know that Rast's signature is their jeans, but honey, those jackets were out of this world. My favorites were a grey jacket with fringes going down the arms and wide, blazer-like lapels, and a blazer with studded leather sleeves- so BA. And I don't even wear leather (fashion week is trying to make me forget my morals).

So the verdict is that I liked Rast better than Terexov, although they were so different and both lines had their ups and downs (at Rast one model came out wearing a huge black blanket with stiff feathers sticking out of one of the shoulders...no). I sat in the second row for Terexov, but in the sixth for Rast, so you'll excuse me if my photos of the second show are, well, bad. I tried.
Oooh, I almost forgot, sitting diagonally in front of me at the Terexov show was Garance's It Girl, wearing a quilted leather jacket and THOSE glasses. Bitchin'.

Ahh, I almost forgot again: I did a little interview for
Modepass about my style for their collection of interviews about what American style is. Please
check it out, I did it in both English and French.
** An edit must be added. I forgot to talk about my best girl
Molly, who accompanied me to the show but who sadly could not join me at the last moment. She looked super fierce and when I am invited to my next show, we are totally going together and will tear up the city (as we always do) :))
