I Have No Reason to Live

I have no words. I'm going to go cry and rage and protest. This is what happens when the economy starts to fail. People get desperate.

Mustang Sally

When I first saw The Commitments about two years ago, I promptly watched it again. And again and again. The movie, if you don't know (although you should) is about a group of poor kids from Dublin who decide to start Ireland's first soul band. The music in the movie is absolutely rocking, and the clothes are really cool, especially now when everyone's into that whole Erin Wasson-cum-homeless chic look. I dedided to steal an idea from Alix and "revamp" some of the looks from The Commitments using Polyvore. This is what I came up with:

Best Sites, Best Shit

NET-A-PORTER

SHOPBOP

LA GARCONNE

I've noticed two things looking at the clothes I've compiled. A.) I am craving a shopping fix like no normal person, and B.) I am unnaturally obsessed with the colors black and white. I'm so boring. Gosh.

Make You Feel Good

I don't know about you, but as a supporter of the go green movement and as a fashionista, I am constantly conflicted about being chic and staying concious of my style choices. I don't wear any fur, and try to refrain as much as I can from wearing leather (it is sometimes difficult to find shoes that have no leather in them at all). I feel guilty sometimes when buying clothes because I have no idea where they come from, and if they are a product of unfair labor practices. I really love "green" clothing, and today I stumbled across the Edun website.

Edun makes their clothes from organic materials, and no leather or fur obviously. They have partnerships with the people who make the clothes from various countries around the world so that they are paid and treated well. The clothing is really delicate, beautiful, and will make you feel damn good.

Really Alexandre Herchcovitch, really?

You were really that bored this season, huh Alexandre Herchcovitch? You really just sat down at your desk with pen and paper and decided, yeah, everything's already been done before. I MUST think of something new.

Honestly, Alex, there's nothing wrong with things that have been done before. Little black dresses, for example, are a trend that will always be reinvented and will still be chic. High heels, red lipstick, chocolate cake. All things that have been done before but will always be wonderful and are able to be modified as the trends progress. Why not those, Lexi? You had to choose CROTCH RUFFLES?

Really?

And another thing, REALLY Laird Borrelli-Persson? You wrote a review of this show for Style and called this monstrosity "strange" and "editorial"? You couldn't think of a more evocative word for these little beauties, really?

Like Brazilian wax-worthy?

Maria Pinto- The New Cassini

The name Maria Pinto is not the most well-known in the fashion world, but that could all change come November. The Chicago-based designer has gained noteriety lately because of her highly publicized looks created for possible future first lady Michelle Obama. Pinto's style is a bit De La Renta influenced, with her use of classic, dramatic silhouettes, rich saturated colors and details like beading and feathers. But Pinto is blazing her own fashion trail with her complex back cutouts and penchant for mixing conservative cuts with flashy extras. Which is exactly why Obama, a burgeoning style icon in her own right, prefers Pinto over any other.

Fashion Week Continued

I'm really feeling the dreamy colors and cuts designers are putting out for spring, rather than punchy brights or loud prints. I rather like the thought of swanning around in billowy silk skirts and draped playsuits during the summer months.

1. Abaete
My favorite collection so far. The clothes were crafted painstakingly with minute details like visible seams and tissue-thin petticoat layers, all done in cloudy pastels.

2. ADAM
ADAM's clothes had such an effortless quality to them because of their draping skills that made the looks perfect for keeping cool (and looking hot).

3. Alexander Wang
I was super excited to see Wang's collection, because his A/W 08 clothes were so, so cravable. However, I was disappointed this season. His clothes seemed like they were trying too hard to be cool and edgy, and the designer himself even admitted that he had been influenced by what his customers had told him to do. Next time he should stay truer to himself, I think.

4. Three as Four
I'm a girl who likes a fair bit of structure in her clothes, but I must admit I was swept away by the filmy clothes of Three as Four. They were like clouds-flattering, complex, fashionable clouds.

5. Vena Cava
Vena Cava said that their inspiration for S/S 09 was ancient Egypt, made modern. This was translated into regal, floor sweeping dresses and skirts, serious metal accessories and kooky patterned trousers and leggings.
